Dear LISD Parents and Staff,

I am following up on the lockdown at Lockhart High School and lockouts at Clear Fork and Navarro Elementary Schools that took place this afternoon. First, we are grateful that all students and staff are safe. Safety is the district’s top priority, and we will remain vigilant in our partnership with the LISD Safety Task Force to continue to review and refine our processes.

Next, the district is grateful to the parent who brought forward the concern about the social media post for investigation.  If you ever hear or see something that may not be safe, please report it to campus administrators or the Lockhart Police Department for investigation.

Also, the district would like to commend the Lockhart Police Department and the campus administration, teachers, and students at Lockhart High School, Clear Fork Elementary School, and Navarro Elementary School for following the district’s Standard Response Protocol (SRP). Everyone responded as practiced and with urgency--we are very proud.  Here is a graphic to explain the differences between the lockdown that occurred at Lockhart High School and the lockouts that occurred out of caution at nearby Clear Fork and Navarro Elementary Schools.

Lockout and Lockdown descriptions

As a learning organization, LISD believes in the importance of continuous learning and improvement. Today was a learning opportunity for us to improve our protocols. For example, we received feedback about the desire for phone calls in addition to the emails. This is great feedback, and we are immediately incorporating that into our communication protocols in school emergencies. This afternoon, the faculty of Lockhart High School and LISD Safety Task Force District Coordinator Deputy Superintendent Kimberly Brents are meeting to reflect on this afternoon’s events to see how we can do better next time. We will also soon convene a meeting of the LISD Safety Task Force to examine what went well and identify where we can improve our processes together.

Thank you for your support as we work together on this important matter of school safety. If you have any concerns, feel free to email me at
