Lockhart ISD Honors Board for Service

LISD Board Recognized for Service
Lockhart ISD celebrated each of its seven Trustees for their service at the Board meeting Tuesday evening as part of School Board Recognition Month. Each January, Texas public school districts honor the contributions of school boards for all they do to help students achieve their fullest potential.

LISD Trustees include President Steve Johnson, Vice President Michael Wright, Secretary Warren Burnett, Rene Rayos, Dr. Barbara Sanchez, Sam Lockhart, and Tom Guyton. Together, they are responsible for an annual budget of $67 million, serving over 6100 students, approximately 750 employees, and nine campuses.

“I am always proud to talk about our school board in Lockhart ISD when I am speaking to others because they provide leadership that directly and positively impacts student learning in our district,” said Superintendent Mark Estrada. “They are ‘Locked on Excellence,’ ensuring we relentlessly pursue equitable and excellent results for our Lions; are ‘Unlocking the Potential’ of our students and staff with a culture of high expectations balanced with strategic support; and they have a ‘LockHeart for People’ in service to our students, staff, and community. We thank them for their dedication and leadership.”

The recognition theme this year was “Navigating to Success.” While students traditionally present baskets and certificates to board members at this event, due to the pandemic, campus principals made the presentations on their behalf. Baskets included student artwork, thank you notes signed by students, maroon shirts with an embroidered lion, face masks featuring a lion, cups with the 1.5 logo, leather-bound journals featuring a tie with a ship’s wheel, and candy in a bag with a ship’s wheel.

Additionally, Board members took photos in front of a large ship created by PRIDE High School students to go with this year’s theme.

Executive Director of Communications and Community Services Christina Courson, who participated in the recognition event, added, “Our Board members are volunteers. They volunteer their time to serve the school district and this community. Even as they  have jobs, families, and other community responsibilities,  they give of themselves for the benefit of our Lions, and we are incredibly grateful.”

School Board Recognition Month continues throughout January. The district encourages students, staff, parents, and community members to thank our Board members when you see them in the community.
