Scott Hippensteel and Education Foundation for Lockhart ISD Both Honored with Spirit Awards at Lockhart Chamber of Commerce Banquet

Lockhart High School’s Coach Scott Hippensteel was honored with the 2019 Individual Spirit Award at the 85th Lockhart Chamber of Commerce Banquet Saturday night.

Chamber Board Director Alicia Tidwell presented the award to Hippensteel. In her tribute to him in a room packed with Lockhart’s community and business leaders, Tidwell described the impact of Hippensteel on his student athletes. “There has to be a great deal of respect here. How else do you get teenagers, for thirty something plus years, to get up in the early morning hours, 365 days a year--when it’s hot, when it’s cold, when it’s windy, and when it’s rainy, to go run five to ten miles and like it? That’s who you want in your child’s life. That is how you lead and produce the most successful athletes to 24 district championships, 27 regional finalists, 11 regional championships, 9 state medalists, state runner up 5 times, and have not one, but two, state championships for Lockhart High School.”

Also honored at the event was the Education Foundation for Lockhart ISD, earning the 2019 Non-profit Spirit Award. Chamber Board Director B.J. Westmoreland described the significant impact the Foundation has had in generating funds to provide teachers grants for innovative instruction for LISD students. Westmoreland presented the award to President Tim Clark, who promptly asked all Foundation board directors to stand to be recognized.

“Simply put, the mission of the Education Foundation is to help our teachers help our kids, and this group of people, the hard work and dedication that they bring to the work that we do on the Education Foundation, these guys make that vision a reality,” said Clark. “Many of our sponsors and donors are in this room tonight, too. Thank you guys for all the support you have given us.” Once this year’s grant giveaway takes place in April,  the Foundation will have provided over a quarter of a million dollars to LISD teachers.

“We are incredibly proud that both Coach Scott Hippensteel and the Education Foundation for Lockhart ISD were recognized by the Lockhart Chamber of Commerce and our community with the Spirit Awards,” said Superintendent of Schools Mark Estrada. “The strength of our school district is rooted in the greatness of people--people like Coach HIppensteel, who inspire students to push harder and go farther, and people like the Board of Directors for the Education Foundation for Lockhart ISD, who volunteer and give of themselves to raise funds to help transform instruction and learning. Because of people like this, our Lions are at an advantage because they are in Lockhart ISD.”
