Ernesto Palomo brings 34 years of experience in maintenance, construction, facilities, and operations to the district. He currently serves as the director of maintenance and operations in Gregory-Portland ISD, a position he has served in for the last four years. Palomo began his career in public education as a construction and facilities manager in Spring Branch ISD in 2007. In 2010, he became the area facilities manager at Houston ISD, managing a crew of 108 skilled tradespeople and other staff, serving over 142 district facilities. He ascended to director of maintenance in Anahuac ISD, where he worked for two years, later becoming director of facilities and operations at La Vernia ISD until 2018.

Prior to Palomo’s work in school districts, he served in various leadership roles in the private sector for corporate properties for 17 years. He also served in the U.S. Army for 10 years in combat engineering and construction.

“I am very excited to join the Lockhart pride. Since receiving the news that I was the lone finalist, I've got a little more pep in my step,” said Palomo. “My wife Mari and I appreciate this opportunity to be a part of this community, this city, and this district.”
Palomo studied mechanical engineering technology at Penn Foster University in Scranton, Pennsylvania. His first day will be May 23.

“Mr. Palomo has solid leadership experience and the expertise that will serve Lockhart ISD well,” said Superintendent Mark Estrada.

Cassandra Salinas was announced as the new director of technology for the school district. This is a promotion for Salinas who most recently served as the technology coordinator, a position she has held since 2019.Salinas began her career in technology in 2013 at First Service Technology and quickly assumed sales-oriented responsibilities to support account managers in acquiring new customers. In 2015, she joined M&A Technology as their sole staff devoted to inside sales support in the San Antonio office, spearheading new partnerships with companies to provide the company’s customers with deeper discounts.

Salinas joined public education in 2017 to provide support in Lockhart ISD at the technology help desk. She soon transitioned to expanded responsibilities as executive secretary to the assistant superintendent of operations and technology while still providing help desk support. She was promoted to technology coordinator in 2019.

“I’m thankful for this opportunity to lead the technology department and work closely with the district leadership team and directly with Superintendent Estrada,” said Salinas. “I am dedicated to providing exceptional technology resources and instructional tools for Lockhart ISD teachers and students.”

Salinas earned an Associate of Science degree in Engineering from South Texas College and a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of Texas at San Antonio.

“In our school district, we believe in #UnLockingPotential of our staff and helping them grow to their full potential. We are proud to see Ms. Salinas step into this leadership role over a department that is critical to our district,” said Superintendent Mark Estrada.
