Lockhart Independent School District celebrated the contributions and commitment of the LISD Board at the regular Board meeting on Monday night. LISD joins school districts across Texas in celebrating School Board Recognition Month each January.

“Forward Together” is this year’s theme, reflecting our Board’s ability to stay “Locked On Excellence” despite the challenges of the past few years. Our district and community succeed when everyone works together for a brighter future — parents, teachers, students, and school leadership.

The Board is led by President Michael Wright, Vice President Warren Burnett, and Secretary Tom Guyton. Trustees also include Rebecca Pulliam, Sam Lockhart, Dr. Barbara Sanchez, and Rene Rayos.

The LISD Board is responsible for an annual budget of $73 million and serves over 6,500 students across nine campuses.

“Because of the Board’s leadership and dedication, Lockhart ISD is moving forward together with our community,” said Superintendent Mark Estrada. “As Region 13’s 2022 Board of the Year, they displayed their commitment to staying ‘Locked On Excellence’ in all the work they do, ‘UnLocking Potential’ in all staff and students, and leading our district with a true ‘LockHeart for People.’”

In line with this year’s theme, campus principals presented tokens of gratitude to Board members filled with student artwork featuring Lions, thank you cards signed by students, backpacks, a compass, a hooded sweatshirt, a water bottle, a rain poncho, first aid kit, and trail mix.

In 2022, the Lockhart ISD Board of Trustees earned the title of School Board of the Year for Region 13, created a self-funded insurance plan with better coverage and lower costs for employees, developed a $71M bond package that passed, approved a historic staff compensation package, and much more.
