Celebrating Lockhart ISD Board for School Board Recognition Month

LISD Board Recognition

Lockhart Independent School District celebrated the contributions and commitment of the LISD Board at the regular Board meeting Tuesday night. LISD joins school districts across Texas in celebrating School Board Recognition Month each January.

“Rising Above” is this year’s theme, reflecting the Board’s ability to remain “Locked on Excellence” to address the countless challenges in delivering high-quality education to every student, especially during the ongoing pandemic.

The Board is led by President Michael Wright, Vice President Warren Burnett, and Secretary Tom Guyton. Trustees also include Rebecca Pulliam, Sam Lockhart, Dr. Barbara Sanchez, and Rene Rayos.

The LISD Board is responsible for an annual budget of $67 million and serves over 6,200 students, 752 employees, and nine campuses.

“This is the most challenging time to lead and teach in public education, and we are fortunate to have a Board that consistently demonstrates a ‘LockHeart for People,’ remains focused on being ‘Locked On Excellence,’ and commits to ‘UnLocking Potential’ in every student and staff member in Lockhart ISD,” said Superintendent Mark Estrada. “Because of the Board’s leadership, we have been able to not only meet challenges but also rise above them as we remain focused on high expectations for our Lions.”

Seven air balloon baskets filled with awards

In line with this year’s theme, campus principals presented baskets to Board members filled with student artwork featuring hot air balloons, thank you cards signed by students, a shirt, a hat, and candy. Each basket had an attached netted balloon as part of the theme. Absent from this year’s celebration were students from each of the nine campuses; however, due to the current rise in COVID-19 cases, the district opted to reduce the number of people gathered for this year’s event.

The Lockhart ISD Board of Trustees was the first school board in Texas to complete the eXcellence in Governance training through the Texas Association of School Boards.
