6 Important Tips for LISD Families this Back-to-School Season

Heather Smith

It’s back-to-school season again! Lockhart ISD’s first day of school for all campuses is Wednesday, August 17, 2022. We can’t wait to see our hallways and classrooms filled with the smiling, eager faces of our Lions once again.

Here are the six most important tips to know as you prepare for Lockhart ISD’s first day of school:

  1. DOWNLOAD THE 2022-2023 ACADEMIC CALENDAR.

Make sure to download a copy of the official 2022-2023 Academic Calendar, located under the “Quicklinks” menu on the Lockhart ISD website. The academic calendar contains all school holidays, asynchronous days, early release days, bad weather make-up days, and more. It’s a great idea to print it out and keep a copy on your fridge, chalkboard, or in your planner.

You can always find a copy of our academic calendar on the "Quicklinks" section of the LISD website, or on our 22-23 Back to School Hub!

  1. NO SCHOOL SUPPLIES NEEDED - JUST BUY A BACKPACK.

If your student is enrolled at Carver Early Education Center or any elementary school, you do NOT need to purchase any school supplies other than a backpack. All other school supplies will be provided by Lockhart ISD for Pre-K and elementary students.

Parents of students in grades 6th - 12th will be also provided basic school supplies once again this year! As secondary students take multiple classes, there may be unique requests by some teachers for certain classes after the school year begins that parents will need to obtain -- but all students will be given the basic school supplies that are applicable for all classes. Parents should also plan to obtain backpacks.

If you have any questions about your child's school supply lists or are unable to purchase these supplies on your own, please reach out to your child's campus and we will find a way to assist you and your student.

  1. KNOW YOUR CAMPUS START & DISMISSAL TIMES.

Lockhart ISD schools have different start and dismissal times depending on the campus. Here is a list of all campus school day hours:

Campus start and dismissal times can always be found here, under the “Parents” section on the Lockhart ISD website.

TIP FOR FAMILIES! As our community adjusts to new routines, drop-off and pick-up during the first week of school may cause heavier traffic and longer wait times than usual. It will be inconvenient for the first week, but please know that the traffic won’t last all year round! It will get much better after the first week of school.

  1. BUS RIDERS, KNOW YOUR BUS ROUTE.

To make it to the first day of school, you have to get on the bus! Visit this website to enter an address to find your child's zoned campus AND bus route! If you need additional assistance, you can call 512-398-0000.

  1. VIEW THE WEEKLY CAMPUS LUNCH MENUS.

School lunch menus can be found here, under the “Quicklinks” menu on Lockhart ISD’s website. Here, you can view an entire month of campus breakfast and lunch offerings – a helpful tool to use when creating your family’s weekly meal plans!

  1. SHARE FIRST DAY PICTURES WITH OUR #FIRSTDAYLISD PRINTABLE FLYER!

Make sure to capture the special memories of your Lions’ first day of school with photos! Print a copy of our official First Day of School flyer in English or Spanish, snap a photo of your student holding it on the first day of school, and share it on social media! Make sure to tag us and use the hashtag #FirstDayLISD.
