Student Wellness & Reproductive Health Curriculum
Texas House Bill 1525 Information for Parents & Guardians
Lockhart ISD believes that student wellness and reproductive health education begins at home. Parents or legal guardians are the primary educators of their children and can be the most important influence on your child’s health decisions. The lessons your child will receive in school are designed to reinforce what a parent or legal guardian is teaching at home, not to replace it.

At Lockhart ISD, ;students in grades 6–8 are taught the Student Wellness & Reproductive Health curriculum through presentations by trained staff using Living Well Aware and Big Decisions.
2021-22 Update: During the 87th Texas Legislation, a new bill (Texas House Bill 1525) was adopted that requires parents or legal guardians to opt-in for their students to participate in the curriculum.
Participation and Parent Preview Access
- Opting In: Participation in the curriculum is voluntary. Parents or legal guardians must "opt-in" their student for the lessons by one of the following options:
- Reviewing Curriculum: Parents or legal guardians will be provided with time to preview the curriculum documents and teaching materials.
- Please contact your student's campus to schedule an appointment to view a printed copy by March 31, 2026.

5th Grade Curriculum: Puberty — A Journey
Students in 1st grade through 5th grade are provided instruction as required by Senate Bill 9 related to child abuse, family violence, dating violence and sex trafficking using Quaver Health curriculum. These topics are 100% aligned to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), which are state curriculum standards adopted by the State Board of Education.

Texas Senate Bill 9 Information for Parents & Guardians
According to Texas Senate Bill 9, Lockhart ISD is required to provide instruction relating to the prevention of child abuse, family violence, dating violence, and sex trafficking. With guidance from the School Health Advisory Council (SHAC), the Board of Trustees has approved the curriculum that will be used to teach each of these topics and has determined the grade level(s) that will receive instruction on each of these topics.
As a parent/guardian, you have the right to preview the curriculum(s) at any time. Before a student may be provided with instruction related to child abuse, family violence, dating violence, and sex trafficking, Lockhart ISD must obtain written consent from the student’s parent/guardian.
Please note: not all topics are covered at every grade level.
