General Information About School Board Elections
The Lockhart ISD Board of Trustees is composed of seven members. Four trustees are elected from single-member-districts and three are elected at-large.
At Large: The District shall use cumulative voting, under which a voter is entitled to cast a number of votes equal to the number of at-large seats in the election for one or more candidates in any combination. The at-large candidates receiving the highest number of votes for the number of seats with expiring terms shall be elected.
Single-Member Districts To be elected, a candidate must receive a majority of the votes cast for the single-member district.

2026 Trustee Election
Three positions on the Board of Trustees are scheduled for election in November 2026 - three Trustees At-Large. The filing period for candidacy ran from Saturday, July 18, 2026, beginning at 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., Monday, August 17, 2026. The Filing period has now closed. Candidates' names appear on this website in the order in which they will appear on the ballot based on the official ballot position drawing that was conducted on Friday, August 21, 2026.

Candidate Information
To participate in School Board elections, you must be a registered voter and meet certain residency requirements. Board Policy BBA (Legal), details the requirements to be a candidate for school board in Lockhart ISD.
Board Policy BBA (Legal) delineates the rules for filing for candidacy, including the statutory deadlines.
A candidate application for a place on the ballot must:
- Be in writing;
- Be signed and sworn to before a person authorized to administer an oath in this state by the candidate and indicate the date that the candidate swears to the application;
- Be timely filed with the appropriate authority; and
- Include all statutorily required information.
An application for a place on the ballot may not be filed earlier than the 30th day before the date of the filing deadline. An application must be filed not later than 5:00 p.m. of the 78th day before the date of the election for an election to be held on a uniform election date.
As a convenience for candidates, Lockhart ISD prepares a candidate information packet with sample filing paperwork in advance of each election. That material is available prior to the opening of the filing period for each election cycle using the "Elections by Year" menu on this page.
Campaign Finance Reports
The campaign finance law, title 15 of the Election Code, regulates the acceptance of, expenditure of, and reports regarding money in political campaigns by candidates, officeholders, and political committees.
Lockhart ISD, as a local governmental unit, is the filing entity for campaign finance reports filed by trustees, candidates for trustees, and certain political action committees. As the filing entity, the district does not assess the accuracy or completeness of reports. Lockhart ISD will also make this information available in print upon request. Important Note: Candidates and trustees have the option to select modified campaign finance reporting. Modified reporting excuses an opposed candidate from filing reports 30 days and 8 days before an election and 8 days before a runoff. An opposed candidate is eligible for modified reporting only if the candidate does not intend to exceed either $1,110 in contributions or $1,110 in expenditures (excluding filing fees) in connection with an election.
Conflict of Interest Disclosure Statement
Section 176.003 of the Local Government Code in Texas requires certain local government officers and vendors to file conflict of interest forms in certain circumstances. Lockhart ISD, as a local governmental unit, is the filing entity for disclosure statements.
To protect school district transactions from the potential undue influence of the business or other financial interests of district officials, several state laws require public disclosure of public officials’ financial interests. The purpose of these disclosures is to provide transparency as to potential conflicts of interest, not embarrass the official. Having an interest that requires a disclosure does not imply that a person has done anything inappropriate or that the district is prohibited from proceeding with a legal transaction. In many instances, however, an individual school official who has a financial relationship with a potential vendor must timely make the disclosures required by law and abstain from participation in the decision-making process regarding the conflict.

The first day to file an application for a place on the ballot in a school district’s general election is the 30th day before the filing deadline. The filing deadline for a general election is 5 p.m. on the 78th day before election day. Tex. Educ. Code § 11.055(a); Tex. Elec. Code § 144.005. The deadline to file a declaration of write-in candidacy is 5 p.m. on the 74th day before election day.
