Meet the Board
The Lockhart ISD Board of Trustees is composed of seven members. Four trustees are elected from single-member-districts, and three are elected at-large. Trustees are elected to serve four year terms.
They provide vision and leadership to the school district, advocating for public education and making decisions that best serve the needs of children. The LISD Board of Trustees functions under the laws of the State of Texas in establishing district policy. Board Meetings are open to the public except for designated executive sessions held in accordance with Texas Open Meeting Laws.
The current Board officers are President Michael Wright, Vice President Tom Guyton, and Secretary Dr. Barbara Sanchez. Learn more about all of the Board members below.

Dr. Barbara Sanchez is a lifelong resident of Lockhart and a Lockhart High School graduate. She is an educator with over 40 years of advocating for students and teachers.
Her teaching career began in Lockhart ISD, leading her to later opportunities in AISD as a teacher, language arts specialist, Title 1 coordinator, bilingual specialist, Texas Education Agency specialist, ESC Region 13 Education consultant, Elgin ISD assistant superintendent, USSIE staff developer, and Frameworks Staff Development National Literary consultant. She currently works as an independent literacy consultant.

Rene Rayos begins his first term serving District 2. He is a life-long resident of Lockhart and a Lockhart High School graduate. He earned a bachelor's degree from Texas State University. He works as a program specialist for the Family Planning Program at Texas Health and Human Services.
His volunteer work has included serving on The Education Foundation for Lockhart ISD, the Lockhart Evening Lions Club, serving as Past President and Education Chair for the Greater Caldwell County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and is a member of the Domitila H & Timoteo R Juarez, Sr. Excellence in Education Foundation. He is a graduate of the 2018 Lockhart ISD Leadership Lockhart Program, which provided him an in-depth understanding of school district operations and was also a member of the 2019 Lockhart ISD Long Range Facilities Planning Committee.

Tom Guyton is serving his second term on the LISD Board. First elected in 2009, Guyton’s service includes a leadership role as Board secretary since June 2015. Guyton grew up attending Lockhart public schools, graduating from Lockhart High School. He then continued his studies at University of Texas and Huston-Tillotson University, earning a bachelor’s degree in psychology, and later earning a Masters in Education from the University of Phoenix. He is certified at all music levels. Guyton is currently the director of bands for Del Valle ISD.
Guyton’s other volunteer work has included service on committees for the City of Lockhart as well as school district committees prior to his election. He has a loving and supportive wife and is the proud father of three "perfect" daughters.
"My father served on the Board, and we were always taught that we should give back to our community. My service on the Board is my way of giving back to my community."

Sam Lockhart retired from Lockhart ISD with 37 years of service in various roles including teacher, coach, assistant principal, principal, and district testing coordinator. He is also a United States Navy veteran.
A long-time resident of Lockhart, his three children attended school in LISD and graduated from Lockhart High School.

Chris Charles moved to Lockhart in 2016 to start a family and become part of a community. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science and a Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture. Chris currently works at Austin Water as a Conservation Program Coordinator where his programs save millions of gallons of water yearly. He volunteers in Lockhart at his daughter’s girl scout service unit and at the new community radio station.
“I have been accepted into the Lockhart community and I would like to give back by making sure our public schools are safe, and every student has a healthy learning environment so they can succeed in their endeavors.”

Michael Wright was elected as an At-Large Member of the Board of Trustees in November 2014. He is a graduate of Lockhart public schools and obtained his degree from Texas State University in Business Administration. He is currently retired from the Texas Water Development Board after 34 years of service.
Wright and his wife, Janie, have been married 35 years and are lifelong residents of Lockhart. His wife dedicated 38 years working for the Lockhart School District before retiring in 2016. They have two children--Michael Martin Wright and Amanda Wright, who are also both graduates of Lockhart High School.

Pulliam moved to Lockhart in 2013 with her husband Commodore. Her children, Everly and Averi, are LISD students.
While Pulliam is new to the Board, she is not new to serving the school district and the Lockhart community. She is the vice president of marketing and events for the Education Foundation for Lockhart ISD. Other leadership roles have included serving as president of the Lockhart Kiwanis Club, board director of the Lockhart Chamber of Commerce, and board chairman of the Lockhart Chamber of Commerce. In LISD, she has been a member of the District Advisory Committee, Student Health Advisory Committee, and 2019 Long Range Facilities Planning Committee. Pulliam is also a graduate of the 2018 Leadership Lockhart Program with a comprehensive understanding of the operations and mission of the school district. Pulliam earned a bachelor’s degree from Texas State University.
