Speech Language Pathologist
I also serve the Freshman and High School campuses as well as off campus sites for 3 and 4 year old students.
Speech Language Therapy Services in the public schools include diagnosis and treatment for students with the following disorders.
Articulation - speech sounds and syllables, mouth movements used to say them and language rules (phonology) for when to say them.
Language - sentence structure (syntax), vocabulary and ways of meaning (semantics), word form (morphology), and social rules of language use (pragmatics).
Fluency - the smooth flow of speech in words, phrases, and sentences without the disruption of excessive repetitions, hard blocks, extreme prolongations, or exaggerated body movements or facial grimacing. These behaviors are commonly known as stuttering or stammering.
Voice - clarity, normal loudness, and normal nasality (not too much sound escaping through the nose during speech) of the voice. The most common voice disorder is caused by vocal nodules or screamer's nodules. These benign bumps on the larynx result from abuse of the voice such as screaming, loud talk, or talking when the throat is sore from allergies. Voice disorders must be diagnosed by a physician such as an ENT doctor before being addressed by a Speech Language Pathologist.
