Poles of a Magnet

Vocabulary Review

Poles, Attract, Repel
Poles are the ends or a spot on a magnet.
Attract means "to like" or "to draw near".
Repel means to "push or pull".

Attract or Repel

Have you ever heard the saying "opposites attract"?  Discuss this with your teacher.

Magnets either attract or repel objects at their poles.

To attract an object unlike poles must touch each other.

To repel an object like poles must touch each other.

Let's look at the pictures below and you decide if the objects will attract or repel.
