Native American Groups
5th Grade Project

Groups Include:
Aztec, Maya, Inca, Mound Builders, Iroquis League, Eastern Woodland, Plains Indians, Cherokee, Southwest Desert including the Anasazi, Inuit, and the Northwest Coast Indians.

Task:
Students will pick one Native American group to research and then answer the questions below using the following Internet links to locate their answers.

Product:
Students will create a brochure in Microsoft Word using the information they located on the Internet.  The brochure will include information about their group and pictures.  Their brochure will be shared with the class so that everyone learns about the different groups of Native Americans.

Questions:
1.  Where was your tribe located?
2.  How did the Native American tribe meet their basic food needs?
3.  How did they meet their basic shelter needs?  (What did they live in?)
4.  What did this group of Native Americans wear?
5.  How did they travel--in other words what type of transportation was used by the tribe?
6.  What forms of art or architecture did this group develop?
7.  Everyone likes to have fun!  What did the Indians do for recreation?
8.  What advancements in science did this group provide or what did they use for medicines?
