A Note From the Counselor
About the Counselor
My name is Marilyn Legan and I am the counselor at Bluebonnet Elementary School in Lockhart, TX. This is my fifth year in school counseling. Before becoming a school counselor, I taught kindergarten for seven years and 2nd grade for two years. I enjoy working with children of all ages.
I hold a Bachelor of Business Administration degree (Accounting) from Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State University), Texas Teacher Certification from Texas A&I University (now Texas A&M University in Kingsville), and a Master of Science degree in Guidance and Counseling from Texas A&M University in Corpus Christi.
It is a great privilege and an awesome responsibility to serve our students and staff here at Bluebonnet. It is my sincere desire to touch students’ lives in a positive and meaningful way. Our children are our future; therefore, to invest our time and energy in the lives of our children is a very worthwhile investment.
“Children are only about 25% of our population but 100% of our future.” --- Author unknown ---
“Life affords no greater responsibility, no greater privilege, than the raising of the next generation.” --- C. Everett Koop ---
Counseling Programs
Counseling --- “Share and Care” class: I teach guidance lessons to each class once a month. Some of the topics for these lessons are friendship, conflict resolution, bullying, drug prevention awareness, career exploration, etc.
Counseling is a vital part of the educational process. Written parental consent is required for participation in group counseling or for students who will be seen on an individual basis more than once or twice.
Referrals for counseling can be made by the administration, teachers, or parents. Students may also self-refer if they need to do so. The referral forms are included in the “Forms” link.
Special Emphasis Events
Lending Library
A number of children's books have been placed in the school library for parents to read to or with their children. Some of the themes of these books are: self-esteem, anger, behavior choices, identifying and expressing feelings, and ADHD issues. The Lending Library also has a number of good parenting books available for parents to read.
Parents who wish to borrow materials from the Lending Library may either come in and check out the materials or call our librarian, Carrie Bartsch, and let her know what book(s) they would like to borrow. The books will then be checked out in the student's name and sent home with the student. Our school library policies apply to materials checked out from our Counselor's Lending Library. Click here for a list of books.
