HOW TO JOIN BAND

 

  1. Decide if BAND is right for you.  Read through the INFORMATION BROCHURE to see all the GREAT opportunities that are available to you by joining the Lockhart Junior High Band!

  2. Circle BAND on the electives section of your choice sheet.

  3. Look at the instrument guide and read through the instrument descriptions and determine which three instruments you would like to try when the band directors visit your school in May.

  4. Once you have selected an instrument, you and your parents will need to attend ONE of two instrument drives to be held at the Lockhart High School band hall on May 20 and May 21 from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m.

 

DID NOT SIGN UP FOR BAND?

If you DID NOT sign up for band, but you are now interested in being a member of the Roaring Lion Band, here's what you do:

  1. Parents need to contact their child's junior high counselor and request a schedule change into band.

  2. After you have contacted your counselor, please contact Mr. McKelvey by email or phone, to schedule an appointment to test for an instrument.

 

HOW ARE STUDENTS PLACED ON INSTRUMENTS?

Students are given an "Instrument Selection" form to complete and select their three favorite instruments they would like to try when the band directors visit the elementary school.  Students are then tested on these instruments to determine which instrument they will be most successful playing in band.  In some cases, students may need to try other instruments they may not have selected on their instrument selection form.  Our number one goal is to ensure the success of your child in band.

 

WHAT IS AN INSTRUMENT DRIVE?

An instrument drive is an opportunity for parents to meet with representatives from Strait Music Company about buying or renting an instrument as well as instrument supplies and band method books.  This is also an opportunity to meet the Lockhart Band Directors and register for an account on CHARMS.
