| Dear Band Parents and Students,
First, for
those that are new to the Band program and this website, I would like to
take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Patrick (Pat)
Waldron, and, together with my wife, Joan, we are the Co-presidents of
the Lockhart Band Boosters Organization. We are finishing our second
full year in office, and are proud of the work we have accomplished thus
far in support of the Lockhart ISD Band program. We have attracted some
corporate partners; have established some creative fund-raising schemes
as well as our primary fund raising activity- working the concession
stands at the Varsity and Junior Varsity football games. Usually, the
band members work the junior Varsity games (with adult supervision, of
course), and earn money for their student accounts. Parents who help
with the concession stands or other jobs with the band also earn money
for their student’s account. This money can be used to help pay the cost
of band fees or trips out of state that follow the UIL guidelines for
either participation in a music competition or some musical educational
activity.
In the past two years, the band boosters has purchased
an enclosed trailer that is used exclusively for the
band, and has also purchased a new drum majors stand for
use at competitions and football games. The Boosters
also provide meals for band members before games or
competitions, together with our corporate partner, the Whataburger Corporation. We also participated in the
purchase of the Charms Music program, a computer accessible database
that allows parents to check their students’ accounts, the calendar of
events, and even the Band Directors and band members’ birthdays!
One of our
most important activities is providing small scholarships to graduating
seniors who have participated in the band program during the four years
of senior high school. In May of 2007, we were able to offer seventeen
such scholarships to graduating seniors, more than any other group or
booster organization. We are very proud of our band as well as our
accomplishments; but are also very aware that we cannot rest on our
past; but have to work toward our future and the on-going success of the
award winning Roaring Lion Band. To do so, we all must work together as
a parent run booster organization, offering both moral and financial
support to our band kids and the band program. We show our moral support
by cheering for the band and helping the band and the directors any way
we can. And we show our financial support through countless hours of
volunteering and monetary donations.
Please join
us for our monthly Band Booster meetings, held the third Monday of each
month at 7 PM in the band hall. If you have any questions or comments
regarding the Lockhart Band Booster organization, please feel free to
contact me at (512)376-9343 or send us an e-mail at
pjbjtx@juno.com. You can also contact any member of the Board, and
they will be glad to tell you all about the Band Booster program.
Best wishes for a great year and go LION BAND!
