Dear Lockhart ISD Parents and Staff,

I am providing this update on the superintendent search on behalf of the Board of Trustees. The Board met this evening in a special meeting to listen to presentations from four different superintendent search firms, including:  Texas Association of School Boards Executive Search Services; Walsh Gallegos; Rogers, Morris & Grover; and Dr. Jenny Preston Educational Consulting.

After much consideration and discussion, the Board selected Texas Association of School Boards Executive Search Services to conduct the search for Lockhart ISD’s new superintendent. The Board is in discussions with the search firm on next steps and projected timelines. Once we have finalized information about timelines, we will be sure to share it with you.

In addition to selecting the search firm, the Board met in closed session to discuss candidates for interim superintendent, leading the district after the superintendent’s departure early summer until the Board hires a new superintendent, which we intend by the beginning of the school year.

To ensure continued momentum and strong leadership during this time, the Board has selected LISD Deputy Superintendent Kimberly Brents to serve as interim superintendent.  Her term will begin upon the departure of Superintendent Bohn in June.

Brents came to Lockhart ISD in February 2016 from Lake Travis ISD. Under her leadership, the district  implemented a new district curriculum aligned to state and national standards; supported the district’s implementation of attendance zones; successfully secured DOI designation by the state;  formalized professional development for LISD staff from front line to administrators; improved systems and delivery of services in the human resources department to maximize efficiency, including the launch of an online hiring system;  led an award-winning recruitment campaign to bring talented teachers to the district, including bilingual-teachers, and successfully facilitated a district-wide review of policies, in partnership with TASB, leading the first comprehensive review and update of policies in 13 years.

Brents supervises and supports all nine of LISD’s principals and the district’s human resources, health and wellness, and data collection and reporting functions. She also facilitates the District Advisory Committee, leads the development, implementation, and tracking of the District Improvement Plan and Campus Improvement Plans for all LISD schools. She additionally heads the Lockhart ISD Safety Task Force.

Her commitment to finding opportunities for continuous improvement have transformed service delivery in our district, benefitting our students and staff. Her current project is the launch of online registration for the district. Pre-K and Kinder enrollment begins this week, and after piloting the program, the district will roll this out district-wide over this summer.

Though she is not interested in applying for the LISD superintendent position at this time, her contributions make her well-prepared and qualified to lead LISD through the transition period as the Board of Trustees continues its work with the search firm to find the next superintendent to continue the hard work already underway by the district and to further cultivate students and staff in this culture of higher expectations. She will provide a continuity that is critical to protect the district’s current momentum.

On behalf of the entire Board of Trustees, thank you for your support. We are very confident with the plan in place and know we will be successful in securing the very best leadership for our #LISDChampions and #RunnersNotRiders.
