Superintendent Letterhead

March 21, 2020

Dear Lockhart High School and Pride High School Seniors,

As I write this letter, I can’t help but reflect upon each of you and how lucky I have been to be involved in your lives and how much you each mean to me. Many of you I have known since you were in elementary school. I have laughed with you, watched you laugh at me for doing something silly, disciplined you, and watched you become better young adults because of it.

I have cheered for you from the sidelines, given you a standing ovation after a performance, told you to walk with a purpose and get to class on time, beat you in one-on-one basketball, listened to you when things weren’t going the way you wanted, and countless other memories. This is why, when I became superintendent, I was so happy that I would get to see each of you walk across the stage and shake your hand as you complete your high school education and go on to your next step in life.

Although the COVID-19 crisis has changed much in our world, it can’t change our experiences or my commitment to be the best leader for you. While much is unknown at this time, I want to share a few things specific for you graduating seniors.

First, at this time, it is too soon to make a decision regarding our graduation ceremony. Everyone in Lockhart ISD wants and will make this special event happen if legally possible, even if we have to be creative in order to comply with any restrictions. If it is possible, we will make it happen. Next, we are working on graduation requirements, but I can assure you that graduation standards will be fair and based on criteria determined by LISD high school teachers, counselors, and administration.

I am sure you are also wondering about finishing out your competitive UIL endeavors and attending prom. The UIL has pushed back all competitions to May 4th and will also allow for some time to practice and prepare for events leading up to that. I am in frequent contact with the UIL, and I hope that they will allow you to finish what you started. When they do, I will be there cheering you on! Lastly, we will also have prom as long as we can legally do so. I want you to know that if it is possible, we are going to make it happen for you.

During this time our community needs you to be the leaders you have grown into since the time I first met you. While I know you still have many questions, our community also needs your ideas. For this reason I want to invite all of you to join me in a GoogleMeet video conference on Tuesday, March 24, at 11:00 AM. To join in on the conversation to ask questions and share ideas use the following link:

I look forward to hearing from you, and I know that together we will get through this challenging time.

Mr. Estrada
