Message from Superintendent Re: Incident on Bus 32

Message from Dr. Bohn to parents regarding safety
Posted on 04/30/2018

Dear LISD Parents and Guardians,

We want to let you know about an extremely dangerous incident that occurred this morning on a school bus, and to let you know that we are fully investigating. First, I would like to assure you at this time that all students are safe.

This morning, a student brought a loaded BB gun on bus 32, and while waving it around,  it discharged a BB, hitting another student on the arm. The student hit by the BB has been examined by the school nurse, and fortunately, there was no injury.

The initial investigation of this incident discovered that the sibling of the student waving the BB gun had also brought a BB gun from home, and it was in the student’s backpack.

Administration is reviewing video right now of the incident, and a full investigation is underway, including what was occurring on the bus prior to the incident.

Parents of the students have been notified, and those students are currently with administration. We are working to learn how the students accessed the BB guns and brought them in their backpacks from home.

We are grateful there was no injury, but a very significant, permanent injury could have occurred, and we are taking this very seriously. The consequences for this will also be quite serious.

Please help us keep our children safe by checking backpacks and making sure prohibited items remain at home.

We will follow up with another message after the investigation is complete. At this time, all students are safe, and normal operations continue. If you have any concerns, feel free to contact me at Susan.Bohn@lockhart.txed.net.

Thank you,

Susan K. Bohn, Ed.D., J.D.
