LJHS Concert and Symphonic Bands score big at UIL competition
Lockhart Junior High School's Concert and Symphonic Band competed at  the UIL Concert and Sight Reading Contest last Friday and made an impressive showing with judges.
Concert band received a "Superior" rating in concert for their prepared musical program and received an "Excellent" rating in sight reading.
Symphonic Band returned home with the distinction of "Sweepstakes Band" for receiving Superior ratings in concert AND sight reading.

Sight reading is no easy task. Students only have 7 or 8 minutes, depending on classification, to look at the music in complete silence while the director talks about the music. Students must synthesize the information they have learned with information they hear and see that very moment to create a musical performance.
Congratulations to the 7th and 8th grade band #LISDChampions!  They have made us all proud to be Lions!
