LJHS Advanced Choir takes Sweepstakes at San Antonio Competition

On Monday, March 5th the Lockhart Junior High Advanced Choir was awarded Sweepstakes at the UIL Concert and Sight Reading competition in San Antonio.

To receive Sweepstakes, the highest possible rating, a superior score must be achieved in both concert and sightreading competitions. In the contest portion of the event, singers present three songs (two accompanied and one acapella) and are given a rating by three judges. For the sight reading portion, the choir gets six minutes (no singing allowed) to study a piece of music they have never seen before. Students then must perform the piece for the judges. After the first performance, a two minute no-singing study period is given followed by a second performance. The judges rate both performances based on tone, technique, and musicianship.

While the challenge was certainly tough, our Lions were prepared and brought home top honors!

Congratulations to our #LISDChampions on all of their hard work!
