Lockhart ISD selected as one of 14 finalists in Texas for Holdsworth Center leadership program

Lockhart Independent School School District was selected as one of 14 school district finalists for the second cohort of a 5-year leadership program by The Holdsworth Center, a leadership institute for Texas public schools founded by H-E-B CEO and Chairman Charles Butt.  The Holdsworth Center’s vision is to help public school districts “to cultivate a pipeline of effective leaders so that students in every classroom and campus thrive under inspired and dynamic leadership.”

LISD submitted an application to The Holdsworth Center in October to compete for a spot in the cohort. Then-Board President Brenda Spillmann, in her cover letter accompanying the school district’s application, wrote, “This team understands it must continuously learn in order to continuously improve. For this reason, they are seeking the opportunity to participate in the leadership program offered to school districts by the Holdsworth Center.”

The next step in the process for final consideration is a visit to Lockhart ISD by The Holdworth Center’s executive team in February 2019.

“Lockhart ISD is incredibly honored to be among the 14 finalists statewide,” shared Superintendent Mark Estrada. “We look forward to the visit in February to show the ways in which we are leading as well as demonstrating our willingness and commitment to continuously improve as a team and as leaders to ensure every Lion--student and staff--is supported to thrive to their full potential.”

“In LISD, we believe leaders have a direct impact on student achievement, and in our district, it is a priority to grow leadership from within,” said Board President Steve Johnson. “By pursuing this opportunity, LISD will be able to enhance the way in which it grows and develops its own leaders, building a legacy of excellence.”
