LISD announces additional key staff for 2018-2019


Instructional Support




Lockhart Independent School District announced the promotion of Lori Jones to instructional bilingual/ESL coach, serving districtwide.


Jones has most recently served as a bilingual teacher at Bluebonnet Elementary School, where she taught for 11 years. There, she served as a team leader for seven years and lead bilingual teacher at the campus the last two years.  She also served as the campus training coordinator for the Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System.


Jones earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education at Angelo State University in San Angelo. She completed a Master of Education in Educational Leadership with Principal Certification K-12 this year.

LISD also announced the promotion of Karen Chapa as an RTI lead teacher at Alma Brewer Strawn Elementary, joining a team of four other campus-based RTI lead teachers to provide direct instructional support to students and staff.


Chapa began her career in LISD 16 years ago as an after school program group leader in the community education department. She later became a substitute teacher for the district and then an elementary teacher at both Clear Fork Elementary School and Alma Brewer Strawn Elementary School, where she was selected as Strawn Elementary 2018 Teacher of the Year. She is also a Lockhart High School alumna. Chapa earned a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies at Texas State University.




Lockhart High School announced the promotion of Kelly Voigt to counselor. She most recently served agriculture science teacher at LHS.


Voigt has a decade of educational experience, of which, the last six years were in LISD. She began in Lockhart as agriculture science teacher at the LHS Freshman ML Cisneros Campus, ascending to the role of counselor at that campus. When the campus joined LHS after the high school’s expansion was completed, she joined the LHS staff as the agriculture science teacher. This promotion returns her to the role of counselor at the district’s comprehensive high school.  She is also a LHS alumna.


Voigt earned a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture Science and a Master of Education in Agriculture Education at at Texas A&M University in College Station. She additionally earned school counseling certification from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville.



Lockhart Junior High School announced the selection of Audra Holified as its new counselor.


Holifield has served in education for 23 years teaching and counseling in districts including Coldspring-Oakhurst ISD, Willis ISD, Conroe ISD, Navasota ISD, and most recently, Montgomery ISD. She has also served in roles as track coach, UIL writing and prose and poetry coach, and other leadership roles in activities benefitting students.


Holifield has a Bachelor of Arts in English from Texas A&M University and a Master of Education in Counseling from Sam Houston State University.



Chi Rocha was promoted to librarian/media specialist at Strawn Elementary School.

ocha most recently served as an elementary teacher at Strawn, where she successfully integrated technology into her classroom to promote 21st century skills and digital citizenship. She is also part of the LISD Visionary Instructional Planning cohort that launched the program to leverage technology in the classroom and build the classrooms of the future today in LISD. Additionally, she is a Google certified educator. Rocha is planning to use the Future Ready Librarian framework to enhance the library curriculum.


Rocha earned a Bachelor of Arts in Government from The University of Texas at Austin.



Kristin Scott was promoted to librarian/media specialist at Plum Creek Elementary.

Scott has served as an elementary teacher at Bluebonnet Elementary School for the past 13 years. Scott is part of the LISD Visionary Instruction Planning cohort to leverage technology in LISD classrooms. She is also a Google certified educator. She was Bluebonnet Elementary Teacher of the Year in 2016.


Scott earned a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies from Texas State University and is currently pursuing a Master of Library Science at Sam Houston State University.


“In Lockhart ISD, we understand the most important factor in an organization’s success is its people, and for that reason, we are intentional about the people we select to serve our students,” said Superintendent Mark Estrada. “We are excited about the team we have in place and eager for the new school year to begin next week.”
