Inaugural ‘State of Northern Caldwell County’ event highlights fast growth and new opportunities

The Northern Caldwell County Coalition (NCCC) held its inaugural public meeting at the Gerry Ohlendorf Performing Arts Center (GOPAC) at Lockhart High School Wednesday afternoon. An audience comprised of elected community leaders, members of the Lockhart Chamber of Commerce and Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Boards of Directors, Education Foundation for LISD, business representatives, senior citizens, and other stakeholders listened to community leaders provide an economic and growth report of Northern Caldwell County.

Caldwell County Judge Ken Shawe, City of Lockhart Mayor Lew White, Economic Development Director Rob Tobias, Lockhart Independent School District Superintendent Susan Bohn, and Countywide Licensed Real Estate Broker and Realtor Amelia Smith each addressed the audience. The event concluded by inviting questions from the audience, which centered around issues such as property tax rates, new housing developments on the horizon, and questions about the school district’s career and technology program offerings.

“We were so pleased with the turnout for this event, which was the first of its kind in the community in terms of bringing together the county, city, school district, and business entities to collectively and publicly discuss the state of economic and population growth in our community,” said Bohn. “We appreciate so much the willingness of our community partners to maintain regular communication and collaboratively plan to seize the exciting opportunities of growth and proactively plan to meet the challenges that come with it.”

The Northern Caldwell County Coalition (NCCC) is a partnership between Lockhart ISD, the City of Lockhart, and Caldwell County. The coalition meets quarterly, and both the Lockhart Chamber of Commerce and Hispanic Chamber of Commerce are regular attendees. The fourth quarter meeting is designated as the meeting open to the public.
