Education Foundation golf tournament a success

The Education Foundation for Lockhart ISD held its 3rd Annual Chip-in for Lockhart ISD Golf Tournament at the Plum Creek Golf Course in Kyle this weekend.  This annual event is the Foundation’s biggest fundraiser to help support innovative instruction and learning across the school district.

“We had a great day! There were 35 teams of golfers who had a blast playing a great golf course, were treated to some fantastic food, and helped the Education Foundation raise money that will benefit the classroom teachers of LISD,” said Foundation President Tim Clark. “We are tremendously grateful to the players, sponsors, and volunteers that made it all possible. Thanks to their tremendous support, we will be able to fulfill our goal of contributing over $50,000 to our teachers for the 3rd consecutive year!”

Each year, teachers apply for the grants to boost student learning through innovative programming. Their applications must show how grant funds would be used and how students would benefit. Foundation members review applications carefully, and in the spring, they travel to campuses to surprise teachers with grant awards. Last year, they were able to award a total of 53 grants to LISD teachers.

“The support of the Education Foundation makes a big impact in instruction and learning in LISD,” said Superintendent of Schools Mark Estrada. “It allows us to pilot innovative programs that, if successful, will be scaled out across the school district to benefit all learners.”

This year, the Chisholm Trail BBQ Team won first place at the golf tournament for the third year in a row. Among the winners was LISD Board President Steve Johnson. “On behalf of the Board, I would like to thank all of the volunteers and sponsors who came together to make this another successful event to benefit our teachers and students, especially Alfonso Sifuentes who leads the planning of this tournament each year,” said Johnson.
