Community welcomes Superintendent Estrada

Nearly 100 Lockhart parents, staff, and community members welcomed Superintendent Mark Estrada at a special reception held at the Gerry Ohlendorf Performing Arts Center Wednesday evening. This event marked the formal introduction of Estrada in his new role to Lockhart ISD stakeholders.

LISD Board of Trustees President Brenda Spillmann spoke on behalf of the Board, also in attendance, and welcomed attendees before introducing Estrada. She shared, “As a Board, it is very exciting to us that the candidate best qualified was also someone from the community, allowing us to promote from within. His leadership has made a significant difference in every role he has served while in our school district.”

Estrada began his remarks thanking a number of supporters in attendance, including his parents who traveled from Abilene to participate in the special occasion, and his wife, Bethany, and their children, Evan, Eli, Annemarie, and Benjamin. Then, the new superintendent shared his vision of leadership and service in his new role stating, “I am honored to now have this responsibility of ensuring that every child and staff member in LISD is challenged, healthy, engaged, safe, and supported. As we move forward I will strive to enhance our level of commitment and collaboration across our entire organization.”

The superintendent also noted that LISD, as a fast-growth district in a region with significant economic growth, would continue its important partnerships with the city, county, and region “to fully understand evolving and growing workforce and economic needs and ensure, as a school district, we are preparing our students to enter our community as young adults prepared to take the reins and lead us into a future that honors its past while innovating for the future.”

The Board voted unanimously to hire Estrada at a special Board meeting on July 3. His tenure began immediately.
