LISD announces Crowley as new director of bands

Lockhart Independent School District announced the selection of James P. Crowley III as the school district’s new director of bands. He succeeds Kenneth Vise who retired at the end of the 2018-2019 school year but will continue in a part-time role as director of fine arts to continue guiding the development of all fine arts programming.

James P. Crowley III

Crowley has nearly a decade of music education and directing experience nationally  in schools in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and Texas. Most recently, he served as the assistant band director at Cypress Lakes High School, a 6A school in Cypress-Fairbanks ISD in Katy. During his time there, the Cypress Lakes High School marching Band received a “1” rating in the UIL Marching Contest two consecutive years in 2017 and 2018,  and advanced to the UIL Area marching contest.

Crowley also has demonstrated experience in developing and strengthening district feeder programs, working to recruit and retain middle school musicians and prepare them to be competitive in the high school band programs. Additionally, as a solid communicator, he cultivated successful partnerships with parents, band boosters, and the community to bolster support for the band program.

"We are thrilled to have JP Crowley on board as our new head director of the Roaring Lion Band,” said Director of Fine Arts Kenneth Vise. “He has successful experience with marching and concert bands as well as a wealth of experience as a performer and instructor with Drum Corps International.”

Crowley has already met with band and fine arts program leaders. “He is already developing a great chemistry with staff.  He will bring tremendous knowledge and energy to Lockhart ISD and the Roaring Lion band family,” added Vise.

“The selection of the new director of bands was incredibly important to our school district,” said Superintendent Mark Estrada. “Mr. Vise has done an outstanding job raising expectations as well as the level of performance for our Roaring Lion Band. He was instrumental in helping us review a selective pool of candidates, and after a rigorous process, we knew Mr. Crowley would be the best person to lead the Roaring Lion Band into its next chapter.”

While Crowley does not officially begin until July 17, the community may catch a glimpse of  him this weekend as he observes the Roaring Lion Band as they march in the Chisholm Trail Roundup Grand Parade this Saturday.

Crowley earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from The College of New Jersey. He is an active adjudicator for USBands and independent shows in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Missouri.
