Message from the Superintendent

Dear Lockhart ISD Parents and Guardians,

First, I want to thank you for your patience and support as the district partnered with Caldwell County Office of Emergency Management to monitor Harvey and its impact on school bus transportation throughout this week. At the beginning of this school week, there were over 1,100 students unreachable by our school buses due to impassable county roads. The number has decreased greatly to about 150 students still impacted by those impassable county roads. The district will continue to update the list daily during the school week, and you can access that list through the link at the top of our home page at www.lockhartisd.org.

While we are grateful for improved conditions in Caldwell County, many of our lives are touched by someone more severely impacted by the disaster with family and loved ones in the many small towns along the coast as well as the larger cities of Beaumont and Houston. The school district has posted a link to possible resources to help those impacted by Harvey in our local area. For those who wish to help the larger recovery effort, you might consider making a financial donation relief organizations such as  the American Red Cross or Salvation Army.  The recovery from this disaster is likely to take months, and the financial assistance will go a long way.

This week, the Lockhart Post-Register featured a new Roar Report, an article I contribute to the paper quarterly to feature important information about Lockhart ISD. In this edition, I present the school district’s student academic performance targets for this school year and talk about how you, as parents, can participate in your child’s academic progress. Click here to read the Roar Report.

Also, this is a reminder there is no school Monday, September 4. The district and all campuses are closed for Labor Day. We will reopen Tuesday, September 5.

Finally, I’d like to take a moment to brag on our students. The LHS cross country team had a strong showing this morning at the Austin ISD Invitational. This evening,  our LHS volleyball team will take on Del Valle. Also, tonight is the first home varsity football game at Lions Stadium at 7:30 pm. Bring the family to come out and support the Lions including students in JROTC, our national anthem choir singer Brooklyn Mendez, color guard, band, cheer, Lionettes, athletic training, and football team as we take on Pflugerville Connally.

Be sure to check out the Lockhart Athletic Booster Club spirit wear sales to get “Lion Ready!” All of the proceeds from those sales, 100% of it, directly benefits our students and the program. Thank you for your support! For a schedule for the football season and information about parking and ticket sales, click here. For information about all of our athletic programs, visit the Athletics website.

Truly,

Susan K. Bohn
