District of Innovation (DOI)

Lockhart ISD is committed to boosting teaching and learning throughout the district to provide the very best opportunities for students to thrive and be successful.

On January 23, 2017, the Board of Trustees approved a resolution for LISD to become a District of Innovation (DOI). This action echoed the district’s commitment, showing the Board’s willingness to support innovate changes and provide leadership as we move forward with those changes.

What is a District of Innovation (DOI)?

During the 84th Legislative Session, the Texas Legislature passed a bill to allow for public school districts to become a District of Innovation, gaining more flexibility and local control, centering around the district’s unique student needs. This flexibility allows for customized innovation plans, designed by LISD staff and community members,  delivering services to Lockhart ISD students that best meet their needs

Who is eligible to apply for DOI designation?

To be eligible for this designation, the school district’s most recent academic performance rating must be at least acceptable. LISD met standard in the most recent accountability report during the application process.

Who is going to develop the innovation plan for Lockhart ISD?

The Board of Trustees approved a DOI Committee of 13 teachers, 10 administrators, and 7 community members who will meet a number of times in February and March to talk about options for flexibility and ideas for innovation to boost student achievement and learning.

This collaborative process allows different points of view and representation within the district as well as the community. The resulting plan must be approved by the District Advisory Committee and Board of Trustees. View the list of DOI Committee members.
