** We will cover the Skeletal, Muscular, Digestive, Excretory, Circulatory, Respiratory, Nervous, and Reproductive Systems.

*Be able to label a picture of all the major structures in the systems we cover

*Know the major functions of all systems

Skeletal System

*Know the role of osteoblasts and osteoclasts

*Recognize the 6 types of joints and be able to give examples in the body

*Differentiate between tendons and ligaments

*Be able to discuss the difference between osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis


Muscular System

*Know the difference between voluntary and involuntary muscles

*Be able to discuss the characteristics of the 3 types of muscle tissue

*Discuss the 2 ways muscles get larger


Digestive System

*List the organs food travels through as it moves through the digestive system and discuss the role of each organ

*Discuss the role of the salivary glands, pancreas, and liver to the digestion process

Excretory System

*Know the volume of fluid filtered through the kidneys daily and the amount of fluid released to the bladder

Circulatory System

*Know the 4 human blood types

*Be able to discuss the direction of the flow of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the lungs

Respiratory System

*List the 4 causes of respiratory problems and the 4 main respiratory disorders

Nervous System

*Define stimulus and be able to give several examples of them in the nervous system

Reproductive System

*Describe the process of menstruation including definition, length of time for the process, and contents of the fluid

*Explain the process of ovulation

*Explain the changes to the uterus during the menstrual cycle

*Describe the contents of semen
