Ecology

*Know what ecology is and what scientists who do it are called.
*Know where the biosphere is and what it contains.

*Understand what an ecosystem is and what different ecosystems contain.
*Know what a community is made up of (ex:your community or a desert community).

*Know what makes up a population and how to estimate population size(trap-mark-release and sample count).
*Know how a habitat is different than a niche and be able to give examplesfor different organisms.

*Be able to identify situations in which there is competition.
*List some things that are limiting factors to populations.

*Know what carrying capacity is and ways that population numbers change (biotic potential, birth and death rates, immigration and emigration).
*Be able to draw a food chain/food web given a list of animals and plants.

*Understand what producers are and how they get their food.

*Understand the 4 types of consumers (carnivore, herbivore, omnivore, and scavenger) and the 3 orders of consumers            (1st, 2nd, and 3rd order).

*Understand what ecological succession is and what 2 types there are.
*Know the sequence of events in primary succession and what type of environment it begins in.

*Know the sequence of events in secondary succession and what type ofenvironment it begins in.

*Know what types of climax communites are possible and how long they take to develop.
