Tardy Policy:

Tardiness is not acceptable at LJHS and it will not be tolerated in my class either.  Three tardies will result in an office referral.

Classroom Expectations:

The following are the rules that I expect you to follow everyday as soon as you enter my classroom.

1.      Follow directions the first time they are given.

Additional Guidelines For Success:

1.      Listen carefully and remain silent when announcements are given.

2.      Food, drink, and gum are not allowed in class unless given out by the teacher.

3.      Remain in your seat unless given permission to move about.

4.      Notes and other inappropriate objects will be confiscated.

5.      Clean up your desk or work space at the end of every class and throw away any garbage.

6.      The teacher dismisses class, not the bell.

Grading Policy:

Your grade in this course will be determined using the following percentages:

Tests/Nine-Week Test:                                                       80%

Daily Assignments/Homework/Quizzes:                      20%

                        Total:                                                                                     100%

Tests:

You will be tested every Friday over the material you have learned throughout the week and from previous weeks.  The tests, along with the nine-week test, count as 80% of your final average.

Nine-week tests are given at the end of every nine-week grading period.  The nine-week test is a cumulative exam that will cover all the material discussed throughout that nine-week period.

Absence Policy:

All work missed during an absence may be made up without any penalties.  You are responsible for gathering and completing your own missed work.  If you miss a test day (Friday), you will be given the test the next day you are in class.  It is your obligation to be prepared for that test.

Late Policy:

Late work will be accepted only one day after the original due date.  The work may be turned in the next day but with a 20-point penalty.

Substitute Behavior Policy:

Do not misbehave for a substitute.  In the case that you choose to misbehave while the teacher is absent, you will be given the appropriate consequence the next day the teacher is in class.

Restroom Policy:

You will be issued a restroom pass at the beginning of each nine-week grading period.  Each pass will be good for five restroom trips.  Be careful how you use the pass, because, once the five trips have been used, there are no more.  Additionally, if there are any unused trips at the end of the nine-week grading period, you may turn those into the teacher for an additional point on your nine-week test grade for each trip that you have saved.

Note: You must have the teacher “punch” the card before a restroom trip.

Book Check-out Policy:

This year, the 8th grade math faculty has decided not to issue textbooks to each individual student; however, if you want to check out a math book to take and keep at your home during the school year, you will be able to do so.  Homework assignments will not be made from the textbook, so it is not necessary for you to keep a textbook at your home.  To receive a textbook for home use, you must have the textbook letter signed by your parent/guardian and returned to the teacher.  You are responsible for the textbook while it is checked out to you.
